GAO presented its Improving Federal Performance in the Information Age issue area plan for fiscal years 1998-2000.

GAO plans to assess: (1) the impact of the year 2000 computing problem on the public and private sectors' ability to deliver vital goods and services; (2) that federal agencies are protecting the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of automated information resources that support critical federal functions; (3) long-standing problems in costly, but essential, system modernization efforts that are at high risk of failure; (4) the risks in critical system development efforts before major cost, schedule, and performance problems occur; and (5) the overall management of agencies information technology resources by effectively implementing the Clinger-Cohen Act.
