GAO presented its Transportation issue area plan for fiscal years 1995 through 1997.

GAO plans to assess: (1) the Federal Aviation Administration's oversight of aviation safety and efficiency; (2) how surface transportation safety and infrastructure can be improved while containing costs; (3) the competitiveness of the U.S. aviation industry; (4) the Coast Guard's efficiency and effectiveness in carrying out its missions and functions; and (5) how the Department of Transportation can improve its management, organization, and oversight of federal transportation programs.
