Highlights

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on the Department of Labor's wage determination process under the Davis-Bacon Act, focusing on the number of counties that had: (1) construction projects receiving more than $2,000 in federal funds in fiscal year 1995; and (2) current wage determinations. GAO noted that in 1995: (1) 3,091 out of 3,100 counties had at least one construction project that received $2,000 or more in federal funds; (2) the number of counties having combinations of county construction projects exceeding the $2,000 threshold totalled 9,682; and (3) 3,600 of the 4,000 county-construction combinations had current wage determinations based on collective bargaining agreements.
