Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO determined the amount of federal funding for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), its affiliates, and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), focusing on the federal agencies that receive and disburse the funds and the authorizing and appropriating committees with jurisdiction over these funds. GAO noted that: (1) PPFA and its affiliates and IPPF received federal government support totalling $87,862,842 in fiscal year (FY) 1993, and IPPF received federal funds totalling $40,629,056 in FY 1994; (2) most of the domestic funds were administered by the Department of Health and Human Services and the international funds were administered by the Agency for International Development; and (3) these funds were authorized and appropriated through four committees or subcommittees in the Senate and four committees or subcommittees in the House of Representatives.
