Highlights

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on whether 68 federal employees who received cash buyouts to leave federal employment subsequently violated reemployment requirements. GAO noted that, based on data from the Office of Personnel Management's Central Personnel Data File (CPDF): (1) 11 employees were in apparent violation of the reemployment requirements; (2) 45 employees were not in violation of the requirements, since they had repaid or were repaying the buyouts, had received a waiver for repayment, had never actually received buyouts, were never actually reemployed, or had coding errors in CPDF; and (3) it could not determine whether the remaining 12 employees were in compliance, since CPDF data were inconsistent with agency data.
