GAO provided its final conclusions on the Postal Service's (USPS): (1) preparedness for handling tragedies; and (2) performance following a November 1991 tragedy at the Royal Oak, Michigan Post Office. GAO noted that: (1) the USPS post-tragedy response to victim and employee family needs was well-organized; and (2) USPS provided prompt trauma counseling and financial assistance to employees and victims families.
