Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed the Air Force's compliance with the Small Business Act to determine whether the Director of its Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) was reporting to the Secretary or Under Secretary, as the act required.

GAO found that the Air Force was not complying with the act because the Director, OSDBU, was reporting to an Assistant Secretary, rather than to the Secretary or Under Secretary.

Recommendation for Executive Action

  1. Status: Closed - Implemented

Comments: On February 3, 1988, the Air Force took action to ensure that the Director, OSDBU, was responsible only to and reports directly to the Undersecretary of the Air Force.
