Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed a Civil Rights Commission report on comparable worth to verify data integrity and reliability.

GAO found that: (1) the report presented a view of comparable worth different from that supported by advocates of comparable worth; (2) the Commission recommended that comparable worth, as defined in the report, be rejected; (3) the report inaccurately characterized the positions of comparable worth advocates; and (4) the report inconsistently and inaccurately presented the positions of participants in hearings which formed the basis for the report.
