The records of the Finance Office, House of Representatives, were examined to verify the financial accountability of the Clerk of the House at September 30, 1979. As principal fiscal officer of the House, the Clerk disburses funds appropriated for all expenses of the House, except salaries and initial mileage of Members, Delegates, and the Resident Commissioner. The examination was made in accordance with the Comptroller General's standards for auditing financial transactions and compliance audits. The financial statements were prepared from the Finance Office records which, in accordance with long-standing procedures, were maintained on a cash basis.
