Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration: Hours of Service of Drivers
GAO-08-390R: Jan 3, 2008
- Full Report:
GAO reviewed the Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) new rule on hours of service of drivers. GAO found that (1) the interim final rule amends the regulations to allow commercial motor vehicle drivers up to 11 hours of driving time within a 14-hour, non-extendable window from the start of the workday, following 10 consecutive hours off duty, and it allows motor carriers and drivers to restart calculation of the weekly on-duty time limits after the driver has at least 34 consecutive hours off duty; and (2) FMCSA complied with the applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
