GAO reviewed the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new rule on national primary drinking water regulations, the Ground Water Rule. GAO found that (1) the final rule establishes a National Primary Drinking Water Regulation, the Ground Water Rule, to provide increased protection against microbial pathogens in public water systems that use ground water resources; and (2) EPA complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
