This document is a companion product to GAO-04-916 This document presents selected results of GAO's Web-based survey of food stamp administrators in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. We conducted this survey to learn about state-level use of the food stamp options made available under the Farm Bill. For each of the eight Farm Bill options, we asked state officials to provide information including whether or not their state had chosen and implemented the option, reasons for choosing (or not choosing) the option, program challenges in implementing the option, changes because of the option, and potential improvements to the option. Food stamp administrators in all 50 states and the District of Columbia participated in the survey, for a response rate of 100 percent. A more detailed discussion of our scope and methodology and a discussion of the summary of selected survey results are contained in our report entitled "Food Stamp Program: Farm Bill Options Ease Administrative Burden, but Opportunities Exist to Streamline Participant Reporting Rules among Programs" (see the full report GAO-04-916). This e-supplement contains information on the results that we included in this report from our survey of state food stamp officials. Another e-supplement (GAO-04-1059SP) contains information on the results from our related survey of local food stamp offices. We administered the survey of state food stamp administrators between December 9, 2003, and January 30, 2004 in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards.
