The Defense Nuclear Agency (DNA) requested a decision concerning an employee's claim for reimbursement for airfare expenses incident to his temporary duty travel. The claimant contended that DNA should pay for the difference between the regular ticket price and a discount ticket, since DNA required his early return to his permanent duty station. GAO held that there was no authority for payment of travel expenses except for those incurred for direct official travel. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
