An Air Force officer requested waiver of a travel advance overpayment he spent incident to erroneous temporary duty orders, contending that the Air Force: (1) assured him that the advance was correct when he questioned its amount; and (2) failed to advise him that the mileage allowance for his privately owned vehicle could not exceed the cost of travel under a military transportation request. GAO held that the officer was not at fault in spending the travel advance, since he relied on the erroneous travel orders. Accordingly, waiver was granted.
