The Forest Service requested a decision concerning whether it could use the proceeds from performance bond forfeitures to reimburse its general appropriations used to repair damage to national forest lands. GAO held that the funds that the Forest Service received from bond forfeitures and deposited into a general fund appropriation account for use in repairing damages to national forest lands was consistent with the applicable statute. Accordingly, the Forest Service may use the reimbursements to the extent of the costs of the repairs.
