[Comments on Assessment of Interest on Duplicate Contractor Payments]

GAO commented on a private citizen's proposal concerning the assessment of interest on duplicate payments to government contractors. GAO noted that: (1) agencies are statutorily required to allow recipients of duplicate payments 30 days to repay without interest; (2) the citizen should contact Congress to attempt to bring about legislation to repeal the requirement; and (3) it could not take a position on the merits of the proposal.
