This document discusses matters pertaining to allowances. A Congressional constituent who resided in Austria and departed Government service in July 1983 while stationed in Germany made reference to a GAO decision that reversed a position that employees separated overseas must return to their country of residence to be entitled to separation allowances.
Reversing a previously held position, GAO determined that employees could be eligible for travel and transportation allowances to a location of their choice, with or outside of the United States, provided that such cost does not exceed the cost to the actual place of previous residence.
