Highlights

An individual requested information from GAO regarding the entitlement to be reimbursed for cost of reinstallation of a catalytic converter upon reentry of a privately owned vehicle into the United States. GAO provided information regarding entitlement to reimbursement of the catalytic converter, and indicated that under the law, the amount allowed for reinstallation of the catalytic converter may be included in the total miscellaneous expense reimbursement authorized. No additional amount would be paid, however, if the individual could not properly support miscellaneous expenditures in excess of $700, if the individual had other miscellaneous expenses which are allowed in a total amount in excess of 2 weeks salary, or if the individual could not document the cost of reinstallation.
