A Defense Logistics Agency employee was transferred to a new duty station, and she sought reimbursement for the costs of shipping newly purchased furniture. The furniture was purchased after she reported for duty at her new station. GAO noted that the rule is well established that the responsibility of the Government for transporting household goods is limited to those owned by the employee on the effective date of the travel authorization. Accordingly, since the employee acquired the property in question after reporting to her new duty station, the claim for reimbursement was denied.
