Highlights

An individual sought information concerning his entitlement to be credited with additional time for Civil Service retirement purposes. The individual stated that he served time with the Military Sealift Command and with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, but that the Civil Service Commission disallowed retirement credit for this time. GAO found that the provisions of the law authorizing the crediting of service for Civil Service retirement purposes are contained in 5 U.S.C. 8332, and are governed by regulations promulgated and administered by the Civil Service Commission. As a result, GAO does not have authority to make determinations regarding crediting of service for Civil Service retirement purposes or to review any such determinations made by the Commission. GAO advised the individual to communicate further with the Commission.
