Highlights

A widow of an Air Force member requested a review of a settlement which disallowed in part her claim for reimbursement for the transportation of her household goods. She contended that her costs of the move totaled more than what the Government allowed, including storage, her time and transportation costs, insurance, and interest on all expenses. The service records of her late husband were corrected nearly 5 years after his death to show that he was placed on the Temporary Disability Retired List and she became entitled to home of selection travel by virtue of that correction. The move was performed at the widow's personal expense and she was entitled to be reimbursed the amount it would have cost the Government for the move, including packing, drayage, temporary storage, and unpacking. The previous settlement was based on a determination of the amount that the move would have cost the Government. This amount included the cost of packing and unpacking the goods. The widow was also entitled to reimbursement for the temporary storage and the cost of drayage from the storage facility to her home. A computation of those amounts will be made and a settlement issued in the amount due. However, claims for personal time, interest, and insurance are not payable. Accordingly, the disallowance of payment of those additional items was sustained.
