Settlement Date Limitation for Reimbursement of Real Estate Expenses

The Department of Transportation requested a decision concerning the authority for the reimbursement of certain costs incurred by an employee in connection with the sale of his residence at his old duty station incident to transfer. Because of difficulty in selling his house, the employee requested and received a 1-year extension of the time limit for which real estate expenses may be reimbursed. The house was not sold within the 2-year time limitation so there was no authority for the reimbursement of expenses incurred in connection with the sale of the home regardless of the extenuating circumstances involved.
