Highlights

The claimant appealed a settlement which disallowed his claim for additional expenses incurred by him and his family incident to their travel to his new duty station. The government is obligated only to the extent of the necessary cost of the dependent's travel directly to the new duty station. The excess costs of commercial transportation may be paid since this transportation was procured pursuant to official instructions. Expenses incurred during a stopover may not be paid since the record indicates that he was in a leave status at the time.
