AGE 10 WILL ACCOMPANY EMPLOYEE POC. " WE MUST CONCLUDE THAT HIS WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN WERE AUTHORIZED TO TRAVEL SEPARATELY. THE FACTS PRESENTED HERE ARE SIMILAR TO CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES CONSIDERED IN OUR DECISION TO YOU B-150009. IN THAT DECISION WE SAID THAT WHEN SPECIFIC APPROVAL OF A MILEAGE RATE FOR THE SEPARATE TRAVEL OF THE EMPLOYEE'S DEPENDENTS IS GRANTED.

B-150097, NOV. 1, 1962

TO MR. JOHN H. GREVE, FISCAL OFFICER, DEFENSE LOGISTICS SERVICES CENTER:

YOUR LETTER OF OCTOBER 9, 1962, REQUESTS OUR DECISION WHETHER YOU MAY CERTIFY FOR PAYMENT THE TRANSMITTED VOUCHER IN FAVOR OF MR. GLEN R. GRIMM, AN EMPLOYEE OF THE DEFENSE LOGISTICS SERVICES CENTER, COVERING ADDITIONAL REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF HIS DEPENDENTS FROM ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA, TO BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN, UPON CHANGE OF OFFICIAL DUTY STATION.

TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION NO. U AND M-155, DATED JUNE 15, 1962, AUTHORIZED MR. GRIMM'S DEPENDENTS TO TRAVEL BY PRIVATELY OWNED AUTOMOBILE. SINCE THE TRAVEL ORDER IN LISTING THE NAMES OF THE EMPLOYEE'S DEPENDENTS PROVIDES THAT "RONALD W., SON, AGE 10 WILL ACCOMPANY EMPLOYEE POC," WE MUST CONCLUDE THAT HIS WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN WERE AUTHORIZED TO TRAVEL SEPARATELY.

MR. GRIMM NOW CLAIMS REIMBURSEMENT FOR HIS DEPENDENTS' SEPARATE TRAVEL BY AUTOMOBILE.

THE FACTS PRESENTED HERE ARE SIMILAR TO CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES CONSIDERED IN OUR DECISION TO YOU B-150009, DATED OCTOBER 24, 1962.

IN THAT DECISION WE SAID THAT WHEN SPECIFIC APPROVAL OF A MILEAGE RATE FOR THE SEPARATE TRAVEL OF THE EMPLOYEE'S DEPENDENTS IS GRANTED, PAYMENT MAY BE MADE AT THE APPROVED RATE FOR AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED THE COST OF CONSTRUCTIVE TRAVEL AT THE LOWEST FIRST-CLASS RATES BY COMMON CARRIER. SIMILAR RULE MAY BE APPLIED IN THIS CASE AND THE VOUCHER MAY BE CERTIFIED FOR PAYMENT ONLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOREGOING.
