REFERENCE IS MADE TO YOUR UNDATED LETTER RECEIVED HERE ON MAY 18, 1956, CONCERNING YOUR CLAIM FOR FAMILY ALLOWANCE PAYMENTS BELIEVED DUE YOUR DEPENDENT WIFE OR FOR REFUND OF YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO SUCH ALLOWANCE FOR THE PERIOD JUNE 1946 TO MAY 1947, INCIDENT TO YOUR ENLISTED SERVICE IN THE ARMY.

THE SERVICEMEN'S DEPENDENTS ALLOWANCE ACT OF 1942, 56 STAT. 381, AS AMENDED BY THE ACT OF OCTOBER 26, 1943, 57 STAT. 577, PROVIDED THAT, FOR ANY PERIOD DURING WHICH ANY ENLISTED MAN IS IN THE ACTIVE MILITARY SERVICE OF THE UNITED STATES, HIS DEPENDENT OR DEPENDENTS SHOULD BE ENTITLED TO RECEIVE A MONTHLY FAMILY ALLOWANCE CONSISTING OF THE GOVERNMENT'S CONTRIBUTION THERETO AND A REDUCTION IN, OR CHARGE AGAINST, THE PAY OF THE ENLISTED MAN IN THE AMOUNT OF $22 PER MONTH. HENCE, AS YOU WERE ADVISED BY SETTLEMENT DATED MARCH 27, 1956, OF OUR CLAIMS DIVISION, PAYMENT OF FAMILY ALLOWANCE MAY BE MADE ONLY TO YOUR DEPENDENT OR DEPENDENTS, AND THERE IS NO LEGAL BASIS FOR THE REFUND TO YOU OF YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO SUCH FAMILY ALLOWANCE.

HOWEVER, UPON THE RECEIPT BY US OF A CLAIM PRESENTED BY YOUR WIFE OVER HER HANDWRITTEN SIGNATURE AND POST OFFICE ADDRESS FOR FAMILY ALLOWANCE BENEFITS, FURTHER CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO THE MATTER.
