BRUSH: REFERENCE IS MADE TO YOUR LETTER OF MAY 10. IN WHICH YOU REQUEST TO BE ADVISED AS TO WHETHER CERTAIN INDIVIDUAL INSURANCE CLAIMS FILES PRESERVED BY YOUR COMPANY SINCE ITS ACTIVITIES UNDER THE SO-CALLED WAR RATING PLAN DURING THE YEARS 1942 TO 1945 ARE REQUIRED TO BE MAINTAINED ANY LONGER IN VIEW OF YOUR PRESENT PLAN TO MOVE TO A NEW HOME OFFICE BUILDING. SINCE THE CLAIMS INVOLVED PRESUMABLY HAVE BEEN SETTLED. THE GENERAL ACCOUNTING OFFICE HAS NO INTEREST IN THEM AND WE HAVE NO REASON FOR THEIR FURTHER RETENTION. WHILE IT IS UNLIKELY THAT SUCH RECORDS WILL BE NEEDED BY ANY AGENCY OF THE GOVERNMENT AGAIN IN VIEW OF THE TIME WHICH HAS EXPIRED. IT MAY BE THAT SIMILAR CLEARANCES SHOULD BE OBTAINED FROM THE AGENCIES AND DEPARTMENTS OF THE GOVERNMENT WHICH WERE INVOLVED IN THE INSURANCE RATING PLAN.

TO MR. D. L. BRUSH:

REFERENCE IS MADE TO YOUR LETTER OF MAY 10, 1956, IN WHICH YOU REQUEST TO BE ADVISED AS TO WHETHER CERTAIN INDIVIDUAL INSURANCE CLAIMS FILES PRESERVED BY YOUR COMPANY SINCE ITS ACTIVITIES UNDER THE SO-CALLED WAR RATING PLAN DURING THE YEARS 1942 TO 1945 ARE REQUIRED TO BE MAINTAINED ANY LONGER IN VIEW OF YOUR PRESENT PLAN TO MOVE TO A NEW HOME OFFICE BUILDING.

SINCE THE CLAIMS INVOLVED PRESUMABLY HAVE BEEN SETTLED, THE GENERAL ACCOUNTING OFFICE HAS NO INTEREST IN THEM AND WE HAVE NO REASON FOR THEIR FURTHER RETENTION. ALSO, WHILE IT IS UNLIKELY THAT SUCH RECORDS WILL BE NEEDED BY ANY AGENCY OF THE GOVERNMENT AGAIN IN VIEW OF THE TIME WHICH HAS EXPIRED, IT MAY BE THAT SIMILAR CLEARANCES SHOULD BE OBTAINED FROM THE AGENCIES AND DEPARTMENTS OF THE GOVERNMENT WHICH WERE INVOLVED IN THE INSURANCE RATING PLAN.
