DIRECTED THE COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE 25TH TRANSPORTATION TRUCK BATTALION TO MOVE THE 640TH TRANSPORTATION HEAVY TRUCK COMPANY - OF WHICH LIEUTENANT SILVERSTEIN WAS A MEMBER - AND ELEMENTS OF THE 440TH TRANSPORTATION TRUCK COMPANY BY MOTOR OR RAIL FROM CAMP MCCAULEY. IT IS STATED THAT THE 640TH TRANSPORTATION HEAVY TRUCK COMPANY WOULD BE ATTACHED TO HEADQUARTERS. THE ABBREVIATION "TCS" DENOTING A TEMPORARY CHANGE OF STATION WAS INCLUDED THEREIN. BY THIRD INDORSEMENT OF JULY 20, 1953, THE CHIEF OF FINANCE, DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY, FORWARDED YOUR LETTER OF MAY 29, 1953, TO THIS OFFICE FOR ADVANCE DECISION AS TO THE LEGALITY OF PAYMENT ON A VOUCHER, SUBMITTED THEREWITH, COVERING PAYMENT OF PER DIEM TO FIRST LIEUTENANT LOUIS SILVERSTEIN, AT THE TRAVEL RATE OF $9 PER DAY FOR THE PERIOD MAY 20, 1952, TO APRIL 19, 1953, LESS TRAVEL AND STATION PER DIEM ALLOWANCES PAID TO HIM DURING THAT PERIOD.

MOVEMENT ORDERS OF MAY 15, 1952, HEADQUARTERS, UNITED STATES FORCES IN AUSTRIA, APO 168, UNITED STATES ARMY, DIRECTED THE COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE 25TH TRANSPORTATION TRUCK BATTALION TO MOVE THE 640TH TRANSPORTATION HEAVY TRUCK COMPANY - OF WHICH LIEUTENANT SILVERSTEIN WAS A MEMBER - AND ELEMENTS OF THE 440TH TRANSPORTATION TRUCK COMPANY BY MOTOR OR RAIL FROM CAMP MCCAULEY, AUSTRIA, TO LEGHORN, ITALY, ON OR ABOUT MAY 19, 1952 "FOR THE PURPOSE OF TRANSPORTING SUPPLIES" AS DIRECTED BY THAT HEADQUARTERS. IT IS STATED THAT THE 640TH TRANSPORTATION HEAVY TRUCK COMPANY WOULD BE ATTACHED TO HEADQUARTERS, LOGISTICAL COMMAND FOR RATIONS AND QUARTERS, THAT THE ELEMENTS OF THE 440TH TRANSPORTATION TRUCK COMPANY WOULD BE ATTACHED TO THE 640TH TRANSPORTATION HEAVY TRUCK COMPANY TO ASSIST IN THE MOVE, AND THAT ALL UNITS SHOULD RETURN TO HOME STATION UPON COMPLETION OF THE MISSION. PARAGRAPH 4, SPECIAL ORDERS NO. 82, HEADQUARTERS, 4TH LOGISTICAL COMMAND, USFA, APO 19, UNITED STATES ARMY, DATED JUNE 7, 1952, STATED THAT LIEUTENANT SILVERSTEIN, "W/DY STA LEGHORN ITALY APO 19," WAS AUTHORIZED STATION PER DIEM ALLOWANCES APPLICABLE TO PERMANENT DUTY STATION, LEGHORN, ITALY, EFFECTIVE MAY 23, 1952. A CERTIFICATE FROM THE COMMANDING OFFICER, APO 19, DATED MAY 27, 1953 INDICATES THAT NEITHER GOVERNMENT QUARTERS OR MESSING FACILITIES ..END :
