PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM: FURTHER REFERENCE IS MADE TO YOUR LETTER OF APRIL 15. THE ADMINISTRATOR OF VETERANS AFFAIRS HAS NOW FURNISHED US INFORMATION TO THE EFFECT THAT THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION IS ADVISING THE MANAGER OF THE JACKSON. SUCH AMOUNTS AS ARE PAID BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION WILL BE CONSIDERED AS AN ALLOWABLE EXPENDITURE UNDER THE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION AND THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AND TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION IN CONNECTION WITH THE SURPLUS DEFICIT ADJUSTMENT FOR THE CONTRACT CURRENTLY IN EFFECT WHICH EXPIRES JUNE 30. THE ACTION THUS INDICATED SHOULD PERMIT A SATISFACTORY ADJUSTMENT OF THIS MATTER AND APPARENTLY NO FURTHER ACTION BY OUR OFFICE WILL BE REQUIRED.

FURTHER REFERENCE IS MADE TO YOUR LETTER OF APRIL 15, 1955, REQUESTING REVIEW OF THE MATTER CONCERNING THE PAYMENT OF SOCIAL SECURITY CONTRIBUTIONS FOR STATE TEACHERS EMPLOYED IN VETERANS TRAINING PROGRAMS ADMINISTERED BY THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.

THE ADMINISTRATOR OF VETERANS AFFAIRS HAS NOW FURNISHED US INFORMATION TO THE EFFECT THAT THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION IS ADVISING THE MANAGER OF THE JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, CENTER THAT:

"* * * IF THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ACTUALLY PAYS TO THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM OF MISSISSIPPI THE RETROACTIVE CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE AMOUNT CLAIMED, SUCH AMOUNTS AS ARE PAID BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION WILL BE CONSIDERED AS AN ALLOWABLE EXPENDITURE UNDER THE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE VETERANS ADMINISTRATION AND THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AND TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION IN CONNECTION WITH THE SURPLUS DEFICIT ADJUSTMENT FOR THE CONTRACT CURRENTLY IN EFFECT WHICH EXPIRES JUNE 30, 1955.'
