FURTHER REFERENCE IS MADE TO YOUR LETTER OF APRIL 2, 1952, REQUESTING REVIEW OF GENERAL ACCOUNTING OFFICE SETTLEMENT DATED MARCH 14, 1952, WHICH DISALLOWED YOUR CLAIM FOR PER DIEM DURING THE PERIOD APRIL 2 TO AUGUST 31, 1951.

BY ACTIVE DUTY ORDERS OF MARCH 16, 1951, ISSUED AT THE UNITED STATES NAVAL AIR STATION, FLOYD BENNETT FIELD, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ADDRESSED TO YOU AT ST. JAMES, NEW YORK, YOU WERE DIRECTED TO PROCEED - FOLLOWING PHYSICAL EXAMINATION SHOWING PHYSICAL QUALIFICATION FOR ACTIVE DUTY - AND REPORT TO THE COMMANDING OFFICER AT THE NAVAL AIR STATION, NEW YORK, NEW YORK, ON APRIL 2, 1951, FOR TEMPORARY ACTIVE DUTY INVOLVING FLYING AS INSTRUCTOR, AND FURTHER ASSIGNMENT BY THE BUREAU OF NAVAL PERSONNEL. YOU STATE THAT YOU PROCEEDED FROM ST. JAMES, TO THE SAID NAVAL AIR STATION ON APRIL 1, 1951, AND REPORTED THE FOLLOWING DAY, AND THE RECORD SHOWS THAT YOU WERE DETACHED ON AUGUST 31, 1951, FOLLOWING RECEIPT OF ORDERS OF JULY 24, 1951, AS AMENDED, DIRECTING YOU TO PROCEED AND REPORT FOR DUTY AT THE NAVAL AIR STATION, PENSACOLA, FLORIDA. WHILE SECOND ENDORSEMENT OF AUGUST 31 ON THE LATTER ORDERS STATES THAT NO GOVERNMENT QUARTERS WERE AVAILABLE TO YOU AT THE NAVAL AIR STATION IN NEW YORK, YOU NOW STATE THAT YOU OCCUPIED BACHELOR OFFICER QUARTERS AT THAT PLACE.

UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF PARAGRAPHS 4200 AND 4205-5C OF THE JOINT TRAVEL REGULATIONS, YOU ARE ENTITLED TO PER DIEM AS PRESCRIBED THEREIN FOR THE PERIOD OF TEMPORARY DUTY AT THE NAVAL AIR STATION IN NEW YORK. ORIGINALLY FILED YOUR CLAIM APPARENTLY WAS FOR THE FULL PER DIEM OF $9, BUT IN VIEW OF YOUR STATEMENT THAT BACHELOR QUARTERS WERE OCCUPIED, A DEDUCTION OF $4 PER DAY MUST BE MADE AS PROVIDED IN SUCH REGULATIONS. SETTLEMENT ALLOWING THE PROPER AMOUNT FOUND DUE ON THAT BASIS WILL ISSUE IN DUE COURSE.

WITH RESPECT TO YOUR REQUEST THAT YOUR ORIGINAL ORDERS OF MARCH 16, 1951, BE RETURNED TO YOU, PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT YOUR CLAIM APPARENTLY WAS FORWARDED TO THIS OFFICE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY FOR SETTLEMENT, FOR THE REASON THAT SUCH ORDERS WERE LOST OR DESTROYED. YOUR ORIGINAL ORDERS WERE NOT SUBMITTED HERE WITH THE PAPERS CONSTITUTING YOUR CLAIM. THE ORIGINAL ORDERS OF JULY 24, 1951, WITH ENDORSEMENTS, FORWARDED WITH YOUR LETTER, TOGETHER WITH A COPY OF THE ORDERS OF MARCH 16, 1951, ARE RETURNED HEREWITH AS REQUESTED.
