REFERENCE IS MADE TO THE CLAIM OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST MR. ROBERT J. DRIESENS, 1123 WALKER STREET, N.W., GRAND RAPIDS 4, MICHIGAN, REPRESENTING THE VALUE OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY LOST OR DAMAGED WHILE IN HIS CUSTODY INCIDENT TO HIS SERVICE AS SECOND LIEUTENANT, 0-1330714.

THE CLAIM, TOGETHER WITH SIMILAR CLAIMS AGAINST OTHER ARMY PERSONNEL, WAS CERTIFIED TO THE CLAIMS DIVISION OF THIS OFFICE BY THE CHIEF OF FINANCE, DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY, BY LETTER OF MAY 26, 1948 (FINEP-C 141.8 YBARRA, C.R. CAPT. $65.00), AS HAVING BEEN BASED ON A DETERMINATION BY THE SECRETARY OF THE ARMY UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE ACT OF MARCH 29, 1894, 28 STAT. 47, AS AMENDED, 31 U.S.C. 89-92.

THE CLAIMS DIVISION OF THIS OFFICE WROTE TO MR. DRIESENS UNDER DATE OF APRIL 1, 1952, REQUESTING PAYMENT OF THE AMOUNT OF THE REPORTED INDEBTEDNESS, WITH INTEREST AT 6 PERCENT FROM MAY 26, 1948. THE DEBTOR'S MOTHER WROTE TO HONORABLE GERALD R. FORD, JR., HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, WHO BY LETTER OF APRIL 21, 1952, REQUESTED AN INVESTIGATION OF THE SITUATION AND A FULL REPORT THEREON.

COPIES OF THE LETTERS FROM CONGRESSMAN FORD AND MRS. DRIESENS ARE FORWARDED HEREWITH FOR SUCH CONSIDERATION AS YOU MAY DEEM APPROPRIATE, WITH THE REQUEST THAT A REPORT BE FURNISHED THIS OFFICE IN ORDER THAT AN APPROPRIATE REPLY MAY BE MADE TO CONGRESSMAN FORD. ALSO HEREWITH IS A COPY OF MY LETTER OF TODAY TO HIM WITH RESPECT TO THE MATTER.
