GAO published a guide outlining the System Assessment Framework, a standardized methodology for evaluating critical issues associated with automated systems development. The methodology provides: (1) GAO information systems evaluators with a consistent and disciplined approach for conducting automated information system life-cycle reviews; and (2) criteria and a process that agencies can follow when planning, acquiring, and operating automated systems and some general audit steps to help the evaluator prepare an audit or evaluation plan.
