Budget Reconciliation Bills

Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO provided information on budget reconciliation bills passed from 1979 through the present date. GAO noted that: (1) the Congressional Budget Office has estimated changes in revenues, budget authority, and outlays based on the future level of revenues or spending under current law; and (2) there is no formal mechanism to track the estimates against actual savings.
