Pursuant to a congressional request, GAO reviewed vacancies in statutory inspector general positions.

GAO found that, as of February 1990: (1) the President had nominated three individuals to fill eight statutory inspectors general vacancies; and (2) there were two other vacant inspector general positions. GAO also provided information on the: (1) agencies that had vacant inspector general positions; (2) lengths of vacancies; and (3) prior positions held by incumbent inspectors general.
