GAO analyzed the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) response to the nine recommendations in a Senate report.

In its report, the Senate investigations staff found serious management and planning deficiencies in the FAA en route air traffic control computer system. FAA was directed to respond to the report's recommendations by specified milestone dates because concern was expressed that the deficiencies could degrade the operation of the en route system to unacceptable levels. DOT has neither fully nor adequately addressed the recommendations and milestones in the report. Certain recommendations were inadequately addressed, while some were ignored or not responded to by the established milestones.
