Transportation Division In an informall conference between officials of the Department of Justice and representatives of our Office it was agreed that the procedure for the payment of judgements rendered against the Government by the various United States District Courts would be revised in the following manner so as to insure a proper court record being made of the satisfaction and cancellation of the judgments. The Department of Justice will forward the judgments rendered by the District Courts to the appropriate division. Together with the names and addressses of the United States Attorneys in whose care the checks issued in payment of the judgment are to be sent. The appropriate division will promptly issue the certificates of settlement for the payment of judgments to the judgment creditors in care of the United States Attorney in the districts where the judgments were obtained as instructed by the Department of Justice.

In this connection see section 1302 of the Supplemental Appropriation Act, 1957, Public Law 814, approved July 27, 1956.

Hereafter, at the appropriate time, the Department of Justice will forward the judgments rendered by the District Courts to the appropriate division, General Accounting Office, together with the names and addressses of the United States Attorneys in whose care the checks issued in payment of the judgment are to be sent. The appropriate division will promptly issue the certificates of settlement for the payment of judgments to the judgment creditors in care of the United States Attorney in the districts where the judgments were obtained as instructed by the Department of Justice.

Previous instructions to the contrary, including those contained in B-63622-O.M., September 29, 1948, and B-90307-O.M., January 6, 1950, are rescinded.

Enclosed herewith is a certified copy of the judgment entered in the above-entitled case. No preceedings for the review of this judgment will be taken.

The check issued in satisfaction of the judgment should be made payable to

(Name of the judgment creditor) c/o (Name of the United States Attorney) United States Attorney (Address of United States Attorney)

who will deliver the check to counsel for the judgment creditor in return for the proper release of any lien or other claim and the entry of a satisfaction of the judgment.
