GAO Mission and Operations:
Performance Appraisal System for Band I, II, and III Employees
Published: Dec 1, 1999. Publicly Released: Dec 1, 1999.
GAO provided its performance appraisal system to provide a systematic and uniform method to evaluate the job performance of GAO evaluators and evaluator-related specialties in Bands I, II, and III on the basis of job-related criteria. GAO noted that the system should be used to: (1) help employees understand their responsibilities and how their work supports GAO's core values and contributes to GAO's strategic objectives and goals; (2) prepare honest performance assessments based on accurate and consistent application of the performance standards; (3) provide candid and specific feedback to employees on how well they are meeting expectations and on ways to improve performance; (4) help supervisors and managers recognize and deal with performance problems; and (5) provide a basis for performance-based actions.
