This publication supersedes AIMD-10.1.19, Year 2000 Computing Crisis: Business Continuity and Contingency Planning (Exposure Draft), March 1998. GAO published a guide to: (1) provide a conceptual framework for helping large agencies to manage the risk of potential year 2000-induced disruptions to their operations; (2) provide information on the scope and challenge and offer a structured approach for reviewing the adequacy of agency year 2000 business continuity and contingency planning efforts; and (3) address business continuity and contingency planning issues that are common to most large enterprises, focusing on four phases supported by program and project management activities: (a) initiation; (b) business impact analysis; (c) contingency planning; and (d) testing.
