The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) requested a decision regarding the payment of per diem to employees temporarily assigned as election observers at locations near their permanent duty stations. GAO held that OPM could only pay the employees per diem for assignments worked outside the corporate limits of their official duty station. Accordingly, OPM may pay the employees per diem.
