The National Park Service (NPS) requested a decision regarding a former employee's entitlement to reimbursement for relocation expenses he incurred when he transferred. NPS denied the claim because it determined that the transfer was primarily for the claimant's benefit. The claimant contended that the transfer was in the government's interest because he accepted a position which had been vacant. GAO held that NPS properly determined that the transfer was not in the government's interest, since the employee requested the transfer for health reasons. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
