Highlights

A National Security Agency employee claimed reimbursement for: (1) temporary quarters subsistence expenses he incurred during the period he occupied an apartment after he vacated a house he leased during his temporary duty assignment; and (2) expenses he incurred in the sale of his residence at his old duty station, even though he never occupied it due to his temporary duty assignment. GAO held that the claimant was entitled to: (1) temporary subsistence expenses, since he was required to vacate the house and converted to permanent duty after his lease expired; and (2) real estate expenses incident to the sale of his residence at his old duty station, since he would have lived there but for the long-term temporary duty. Accordingly, the claim was allowed.
