A former Peace Corps employee claimed severance pay pursuant to her separation from a time-limited appointment. GAO found that the Peace Corps terminated the employee because her limited position had expired. GAO held that: (1) although legislation excluded employees in time-limited appointments from severance pay, the claimant was covered under the exception for employees who were transferred, without a break in service, to a time-limited appointment following service under an unlimited appointment; and (2) since the employee was involuntarily separated, she was entitled to receive severance pay. Accordingly, the claim was allowed.
