[Request for Decision on Entitlement of Employee to Reimbursement of Temporary Quarters Subsistence Expenses]

A Department of Agriculture (USDA) certifying officer requested a decision regarding an employee's claim for temporary quarters subsistence expenses. GAO noted that: (1) the employee transferred to his new duty station in January 1985; and (2) the employee's family visited him several times at the new station before transferring there permanently. GAO held that: (1) the employee was not entitled to reimbursement for his family's travel expenses for visits to his new duty station; and (2) USDA acted properly in denying the employee's request for an extension of temporary quarters subsistence expenses due to an inability to sell his house. Accordingly, the claim was denied.
