[Question Concerning Whether To Appeal Court Decision on Secretary of Agriculture's Authority Under Debt Collection Act]

In response to a Department of Justice inquiry, GAO commented on a recent decision which interpreted the Debt Collection Act of 1982 as abolishing the government's common law authority to assess interest on state and local governments' debts. GAO disagreed with the interpretation and urged a rehearing or appeal of the decision.
