GAO addressed issues pertaining to the Army's collection process in duplicate check cases. GAO noted that the Army takes an average of more than a year to institute collection action in duplicate check cases. In addition, GAO: (1) believes that the Army should take no more than 3 months to institute collection action in duplicate check cases; and (2) notified the Army that it will no longer grant relief for accountable officers in duplicate check cases where the Army takes more than 3 months to institute collection.
