This article, which appeared in the GAO Review, Vol. 19, Issue 3, Summer 1984, discusses how the rapid advances in computer technology and the government's increasing reliance on automatic data processing (ADP) are dramatically changing the GAO audit environment. This situation requires evaluators to acquire some basic ADP understanding to gain needed practical knowledge.
