Highlights

A deceased Navy employee's widow appealed a Claims Group decision which denied her claim for the employee's unpaid compensation at the time of his death. The Claims Group denied the claim, because she was not the legal wife of the employee at the time of his death. GAO noted that the employee's marriage to the claimant, his second wife, was void because there was no evidence that he was divorced from his first wife. The claimant was not, therefore, entitled to receive the unpaid compensation. Accordingly, the Claims Group decision was sustained.
