Highlights

The Bureau of Reclamation requested a decision concerning an employee's claim for temporary quarters expenses incident to his transfer. The claim arose when, en route to his new duty station, the employee's mobile home broke down forcing him to find temporary lodgings for himself and his family while the mobile home was being repaired. Since the employee had not been authorized temporary lodging expenses, he was eligible to receive only per diem expenses. Travel regulations allow for additional per diem when an employee is delayed for reasons acceptable to the agency. Therefore, the employee may not be reimbursed for temporary lodging expenses; rather, he may be reimbursed per diem for the period of delay.
