Highlights

The Navy appealed a Claims Group settlement which authorized the reimbursement of certain real estate expenses incurred by a Navy civilian employee incident to his transfer. The employee was transferred from his Navy position to an overseas position with the United Nations. Prior to the completion of his scheduled term with the United Nations, the employee sought reemployment with the Navy. Although the employee's previous position was unavailable at the time of his request, he was offered another position, which he accepted, at a different location. The Claims Group authorized the reimbursement of certain expenses the employee incurred incident to moving himself and his family from his old Navy duty station to his new Navy duty station after his United Nations separation. Upon its review, GAO determined that Claims Group's settlement was in accordance with Federal laws and regulations regarding Federal employees who are transferred to an international organization and subsequently return to Federal employment. Accordingly, the prior settlement was affirmed.
