Highlights

A decision was requested concerning the propriety of reimbursement to a federal employee for the cost of transporting his automobile by train pursuant to a permanent change of station. The employee drove the car part of the distance and had it transported the rest of the way, thereby saving the government money, since to drive the entire distance would have cost more. Since he could not have used the train without his automobile, and the charge for the automobile was separate, it was allowable as an additional travel cost. Accordingly, it was held that the reimbursement for the cost of transporting the automobile was proper.
