The U.S. Fire Administration requested an opinion on whether it was authorized to sell the former Marjorie Webster Junior College without regard to the requirements of the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act of 1949. As a result of controversy over the site, Congress authorized the sale of the Marjorie Webster site and retention of the proceeds for acquisition and improvement of a new site. This specific legislation also authorized the sale of the site without regard to the requirements of the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act of 1949.
